Texas In July Announce the Coming of Self Titled Album

Just announced today (August 7) hardcore/metal band Texas In July will be releasing a brand new self titled album this fall. The album will be the band's third when released October 9. With the announcement of the coming album, the Texas In July will also release the first single off the album a month in advance on September 11. The track is called "Bed of Nails."

“This track is collectively one of our favorite songs that we have ever written as a band,” said lyricist and bassist Ben Witkowski. “For the most part, 'Bed of Nails' was written in the studio. It came together so smoothly and, surprisingly, pretty early on in writing/recording process and quickly became a favored track. We think of it as our hybrid song - it has many contrasting musical parts, as well as a heavy hitting vocal chant near the tail of the song. I really think people are going to be pleased to hear this song. I would love to see this track become our next “Hook Line and Sinner." It’s very memorable, and feels like the perfect track to be released as the first listen for the upcoming record.”

Here is the full track listing...
- Initiate
- Cry Wolf
- Shallow Point
- Without A Head (ft. Chadwick Johnson of Hundredth)
- Bed of Nails
- Repressed Memories
- C4 (ft. Dave Stephens of We Came As Romans)
- Crux Lust
- Paranoia
- Black Magic
- Cloudy Minds (ft. Matt Greiner of August Burns Red)

As you can see, the track has several special guest vocalists and musicians. Greiner is the drummer of August Burns Red, Stephens is the vocalist for We Came As Romans, and Johnson is the vocalist for Hundredth.

Texas In July was recorded at The Machine Shop Studios in Belleville, New Jersey under the bands record label Equal Vision Records. The album will be their second under the label.

Texas In July is currently finishing out the the Scream It Like You Mean It Tour on the red and gold lines. The band will then travel over seas for their end of summer fall tour with For All Eternity. You can view all those details here

I See Stars Release "Filth Friends Unite" Music Video

I See Stars' music video of "Filth Friends Unite," under Sumerian Records, was released August 4. The song is the tenth track off I See Stars' most recent album Digital Renegade from this past March.

"Filth Friends Unite" is the first song off Digital Renegade to have a music video and is the seventh video the band has put out.

In the music video we see the band use masks and several themes from the movie "V For Vendetta," adding a great deal to the song. Too often we see music videos that are generic or that have nothing to do with the song they were created for. However, in this video, the visual and audio messages accomidate each other in a great way using themes and visual objects from a fantastic movie (in my opinion) to clearly get their message across: the government controlling and abusing their power of our rights.

If you haven't seen the video yet, you can check it out below. One of the top music videos of the year in my opinion.

Rise Records Signs Further Seems Forever

Rise Records just announced their signing of Pompano Beach indie rock band Further Seems Forever. Rise Records has been teasing as of late about signing a new band, leaving everyone guessing as to who that is. I think that news has just broken through.

When going to Rise's home website, the image above appears, and I think it says it all. We can expect to hear the release of a new album, the first the band will put out since they disbanded in 2006 and got back together. The album will be called Penny Black and will be released October 23, as the fourth studio album for Further Seems Forever.

Up to the point of this posting, no other information has been released.

The Ghost Inside - "Get What You Give" Review

Los Angeles-based hardcore band The Ghost Inside released their third album, Get What You Give, a little over a month ago and is so good that we couldn't help but write a review. The 11-track collection packs a punch and is well worth a listen.

All 11 songs were written by frontman Jonathan Vigil.

1. This Is What I Know About Sacrifice
2. Outlive
3. Engine 45
4. Slipping Away
5. The Great Unknown
6. Dark Horse
7. White Light
8. Thirty Three
9. Face Value
10. Deceiver
11. Test the Limits

The release, which is the first for the group under Epitaph Records, is their best to date in my opinion. The Ghost Inside's first two albums, Fury and the Fallen Ones and Returners, were released under Mediaskare Records. The five-member outfit seems to have found their place on Get What You Give, and the album is solid throughout.

Get What You Give kicks off with the tremendous 1:29 "This Is What I Know About Sacrifice," a killer track that perfectly sets the tone for the rest of the album and should only be listened to at full volume. It's one of those songs that is remarkably easy to repeat three or four times in a row, just because you don't want the raging to stop.

Vigil, like so many of his peers in hardcore music, is an emotional writer who likes to fall back on the same subjects throughout albums/songs. Get What You Give is no different, but Vigil manages to vary his lyrics enough to keep his songs from getting the stale feeling that some artists fall victim to. The majority of songs on Get What You Give are about overcoming struggle and continuing to forge ahead; it is a message that all can benefit from hearing and fits the genre extremely well. Vigil has said several times that he has had to overcome a number of hardships to ascend to where he is now, and it is clear through his lyrics on Get What You Give that he and his bandmates forged ahead and are extremely grateful for the position that they are in now.

"Engine 45" is about overcoming addiction, something that Vigil says everyone can relate to in some way or another. When it comes down to it, that's the crux of Get What You Give: easily relatable songs that you can't help but turn up, head-bang to and play more than once. You can view TGI's music video to "Engine 45" below.

I was lucky enough to catch The Ghost Inside on the Vans Warped Tour this year, and I can say with absolute certainty that the band puts on one of the best live shows that I have ever seen. It was easy to catch Vigil smiling mid song throughout the band's set, overjoyed at the fact that hundreds of kids were in front of him jumping around and yelling lyrics that he wrote. The band played a good mix of songs from all three of their albums, and those from Get What You Give stood out for sure.

I give Get What You Give a 4.8/5. It is a must-download in my opinion. You can get it on iTunes.

The Ghost Inside will be main support for Miss May I on the AP Tour this fall, for which the dates have yet to be announced.

Close To Home Release "Momentum"

Close To Home just released their brand new full length album today via Artery Records/Razor & Tie, and the "momentum" is picking up. Momentum is the fifth release the band has put out since its birth in 2006 and is everything we could have expected from the group and more. The album has a mixture of feelings from a soothing intro track to hardcore, metal riffs and downright insane vocals, both clean and screaming.

The album starts out with a short intro track called "Make It Count" containing a melodic piano, momentum picking up slightly halfway through the song, and the last few seconds it starts to break down into the beginning of the next song "Don't Waste Your Breath" and an incredible choir of voices.

Throughout the album, the band uses several different extremely catchy choruses, both instrumental and vocal, and really draws in the listener, keeping their attention throughout and making them want to keep listening.

The album also contains a number of breakdowns that I found myself stomping my feet and banging my head to without realization until the writing of this post.

If you had a chance to listen to the two singles the band released already from this album, "Backstabbers Need Not Apply" and "Family Ties," you can hear how the overall feel and listen has changed from what we've seen previously. This may have a large part to do with the departure of vocalist Nick Stiens earlier this year and the coming of Andrew DeNeef who replaced him. But it seems more than just the vocals. We're seeing a whole different side of Close To Home, and it really excites me.

In some of their former EPs and in their first full length album "Never Back Down," I saw Close To Home as kind of a pop/punk/rock band who reminded me a great deal of A Day To Remember. However, they were still unique in their own way and what really stood out to me was their mixture of a vocal style of screaming and singing, almost yelling in a way.

What we see now in Momentum is something completely different, something more than just a change of vocalists, and I really like what their putting out.

The incorporation of special guest vocals (Dave Stephens and Kyle Pavone of We Came As Romans) is also a huge plus to me.

The two singles they've already released definitely did their job to preview what you can expect to hear when listening to Momentum. But these two tracks don't embody the fullness and newness that the full album brings. One thing that I really enjoyed was the synth they incorporated into some of their songs such as "Young & Stupid."

Overall, the album is an incredible listen, both refreshing and dirty. Easily one of my favorite releases of the year.
You can get Momentum now on iTunes.

Fit For A Kings Signs With Solid State Records

The news has finally been released by Fit For A King. The band just announced minutes prior to this post that they have singed with Solid State Records.

Along with their signing, they released a brand new music video for their record title song, Descendants. You can view that video here.

Solid State Records welcomed the band on their website by saying...

We'd like to welcome Fit For A King to the Solid State Family! The Texas-based metalcore band has been elbowing its way onto the national scene as a full-time touring outfit, cultivating fans with a crushingly heavy, artful take on the genre that gives subtle tips of the hat to bands as diverse as The Acacia Strain, Circa Survive and Linkin Park.
For an intro to the band, check out a new video for their song "Decendants" now on YouTube!
In September, the band will head into the studio with esteemed producer Andreas Magnusson (Oh, Sleeper, Haste The Day, Black Dahlia Murder) to record its debut album, due out in early 2013.
“Words cannot even express how excited we are to join the Solid State family,” guitarist Justin Hamra says. “We grew up listening to Solid State bands and we always talked about being on the label and how amazing it would be. And for it to actually happen is one the best feelings we've had as a band.”
“For us to be signed to this label is a massive step for this band,” he adds. “We've been waiting and holding off on labels for so long until we felt we had the right one. Our mission is just to work hard and put out music that we are proud of and that people want to listen to. We know we are all sent by God to do what we are doing in this band and we want to do our best to make every effort to be the best we can be.”

Not sure about you guys, but this is extremely exciting to me as we have seen bands completely take off after signing with record labels such as Solid State Records.

Solid State Records is home to bands such as:
- August Burns Red
- Becoming the Archetype
- The Chariot
- Norma Jean
- Oh, Sleeper
- Underoath
And several others!

And with the announcement of a new studio album coming out in early 2013, Fit For A King is bursting onto the scene with a great deal of momentum. There's no telling what this band will do in the future!

The Overseer - We Search, We Dig

Rock/experimental/metal band The Overseer has just recently released their first album on a record label (Solid State Records). The album is titled "We Search, We Dig" and contains 10 total songs:
1. Secrets
2. Dredge
3. Amend
4. Dreamer
5. Mendacious
6. Traitor
7. Vulture
8. Lost
9. Estrange
10. Absolve

I had a chance to talk with the band about the album. They said their favorite song would probably be "Amend" because, "It captures both the heavy and melodic sides of our band." In the song we see the struggle of love and the strength and power that comes with it. The band also released a music video to go along with the song. You can see it on their YouTube channel or right here.

I think several people would agree with me that all the songs on the album have very deep meanings that are relatable to anyone. You can find the lyrics to all these songs on their Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/theoverseerband.

Despite the fear of receiving negative reactions to the album, there has been a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm for what the band has put out.

You can get your copy of "We Search, We Dig" on iTunes or at Solid State Record's website http://www.solidstaterecords.com/releases/872/We_Search_We_Dig/.

The Overseer has since announced that they will be touring with several different bands such as War of Ages, MyChildren MyBride, 12 Stones, Becoming the Architect, and a six week tour with August Burns Red, The Color Morale, and a special guest which is still to be announced.

You can find their tour dates and locations at http://www.facebook.com/theoverseerband/app_123966167614127

Go ahead and check them out, I'm sure you will love what they have and the newness they bring to the scene!
